Lock file/folder without any software

folderMight be for Windows Users these is an familiar trick , just sharing it .Several folder lock software’s are avail to hide or secure important files/folders, but here a simple but powerful trick using notepad to lock your sensitive folders.The trick is by using notepad we execute a command to rename the folder into My computer/control panel/Recycle bin i.e redirecting folder to any of these.

1. Select the folder for which you want to redirect. For example, consider folder drafts in the C:\ drive

2. Create a new file (in same drive or same path) in Notepad and copy and paste the following into it:

ren drafts drafts.{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Note: Here {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} is GUID/CLSID (Global unique Identifier) in windows OS registry for My computer. Alternatively instead of {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}, you can use GUID of Control Panel or Recycle bin or Firewall or welcome center or any.

3. Now save the file as LOCK.BAT in the same drive as your folder(i.e for eg: in C:\ itself).

4. Again create a new file in Notepad and type

ren drafts.{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} drafts

5. Save the file as KEY.BAT in the same drive(i.e for eg: in C:\ itself)..

6. To lock the folder, double click on LOCK.BAT file and then you will not be able to access the folder. My computer will open instead the folder.

7. To unlock the folder,double click on KEY.BAT file an again you can have access to that folder.

Now keep(move or cut) the LOCK.BAT and KEY.BAT file at a secure place(different drive or folder/hide) so that you only know where is the key to that folder.For Locking and unlocking paste them back to same path of folder.

Note:Any other idea you got, Please share it
